Patient’s stories

Real life experiences of healing, growth, and positive change from those I’ve cared for worked with.

Recently I was suffering with a dreadful cold and deep barking cough. I was coughing constantly and in a lot of pain with the cough. I was due for an operation in day surgery the following week and had booked an appointment at the surgery with the nurse practitioner to make sure the chest was OK to go under anaesthetic. I was too ill to go to the surgery and asked Carole for a home visit and she had a cancellation so was there within an hour. A remedy was prescribed for pleurisy. She checked on me regularly and changed the remedy accordingly as symptoms developed. In the meantime, the nurse practitioner paid a visit, diagnosed pleurisy and left a prescription for antibiotics.
By this time I was improving on the remedy and I discussed the antibiotics with Carole and decided not to take them. A week after I received a letter saying that the strain of bacteria I had was resistant to the antibiotic prescribed and enclosing ANOTHER prescription for a different one. Needless to say, I didn’t take that either. Last week I was checked over at the surgery in preparation for the operation and was declared 99% fit. A slight cough is all I have left and it will go ahead this time..
Thanks Carole and homoeopathy – I should add that I am 73.

I have never really understood Homoeopathy, and how it works, its always been much easier to go to the Doctors. Even having a sister who is a homoeopath. I expect you will think I am a bit biaised but if you read on you will see I am not.
About 6 or 7 weeks ago I realised I was beginning to have the symptoms of Cystitis, which I haven’t had in quite a long time. It came and went mildly for a few days then as usual I popped along to my Doctors and got the antibiotics.
It was a bad time for me as I have aged parents, my father has dementia and my mother struggles to look after him and the upkeep of quite a large house. She leans on me a lot for support and can be quite difficult at times. I was feeling quite stressed and depressed with all that was happening, I don’t think I realised how stressed I was. The Cystitis went, and then a few days later I started feeling nauseous, quite badly, also my stomach ached. I already have a hiatus hernia and usually deal with it quite well, by watching my diet. The nausea came and went, and whilst writing an email to my sister I told her how I was feeling. I was beginning to get worried as I was due to fly out a couple of weeks later to the Caribbean for a lovely holiday. My sister sent me a remedy and told me to take it before I went to bed. I did as I was told, I woke up in the night feeling dreadful, really sick and unwell. Next morning I rang my sister and she said “oh thats a great reaction, it’s really worked well”! I was taken aback but it meant the remedy was working apparently. She said to be patient as the nausea will come and go. It did for another week or so, and I was still worried. But she said I would be fine for my holiday, and I was.
On my return I visited my parents and I could feel the stress happening again, within a few days, and once again the Cystitis came back. I thought it strange and told my sister, she said she wished I had told her about the Cystitis the first time as she would have given me a remedy for it which would have completely rectified the problem and I wouldn’t have ended up with the terrible nausea. Basically the antibiotics just supressed the problem. I dissolved the same remedy this time in water and sipped it on and off all day, by the following day the Cystitis had gone!
So there is my story about Homoeopathy, and my experience. If you have any thoughts about trying it, give it a go, don’t just go to the Doctor.

Eric has asked me to write his story for him –
He came to me with depression following medical treatment for cancer of the bladder. He is an artist and could not “get himself together” enough to paint. With homeopathy he followed a steady improvement and during his treament he developed large hard swollen lymph nodes, one in his neck and one behind his ear. Naturally he was very worried by this, knowing that cancer can recur. So although the doctors suggested a dangerous operation to remove the one in his neck which could have resulted in paralysis he trusted in homeopathy and we treated him homeopathically. Miraculously, over a period of weeks, the glands went down, first on one side and then on the other. There is now no trace of them. The doctors treating the lymph nodes couldn’t explain it! The consultant urologist said of homeopathy “if it works thats fine”. Now Eric is a happy man and painting and having exhibitions again.
Note: Cancer treatment in itself is suppressive, although it can be lifesaving at the time does not cure the root of the problem or the tendency towards cancer and this is why cancers recur. However if homeopathy is used in conjunction with or after medical treatment it can substantially help to cure the person of his or her tendency to cancer.

After numerous tests to determine the cause of my symptoms, my GP held his office door open and pronounced in a loud voice ?There are plenty of sick people out there in the waiting room but you are not one of them?. That was nearly 20 years ago and I had been suffering unfamiliar symptoms that I now know to be consistent with panic attacks.
A couple of days later my wife made an appointment for me to see a homoeopath in the clinic above our local pharmacy. These were the circumstances of me ?discovering? homoeopathy and the rest, as they say, is history. I continue to see a homoeopath to this day and fortunately, I very rarely have occasion to see my current GP.
As a trained Analytical Chemist I can appreciate a certain amount of scepticism towards homoeopathy, indeed I would even suggest it is sensible to adopt a cautious approach to anything if it seems to go against generally accepted scientific knowledge, popular belief or common sense. However, homoeopathy has been practiced extensively for over two hundred years so I am somewhat surprised at the persistent objections that I see in the Media.
Unfortunately there are a couple of things that remain barriers to a more general acceptance that homoeopathic remedies work:
The first is the fact that homoeopathic remedies are prepared by dilution beyond the point where the remedy is physically present. I must admit I had problems with concept. Shortly after taking my first ever remedy however, I had to accept that I had experienced something as a consequence of taking the little sugar pills – even though I knew it was unlikely that they contained any physical trace of active ingredient.
Secondly, the use of randomised control trials is widely accepted as the ?gold standard? when it comes to testing the efficacy and effectiveness of healthcare services and technologies.
I wonder if the mixed reports regarding the success of homoeopathy in these trials is in any way due to the complex process of ?case taking? and remedy selection.
I once read that if six people went to their GP suffering from stomach pains, the likelihood is that they would all be prescribed the same medicine. If six people went to a homeopath complaining of stomach pains, it is extremely unlikely that they would be presribed the same remedy.
Are randomised control trials a meaningful and appropriate way of testing the efficacy or effectiveness of any holistic approach to healthcare? Perhaps someone else knows the answer to this one.
What surprises me time and time again is the level of outrage against homoeopathy and how vindictive and nasty many of the comments are. The level of feeling seems to be disproportionate to the threat or harm posed by the continued availability of homoeopathy to those who choose it as their preferred approach to healthcare. When one looks at published figures for example, the total cost of providing homoeopathy on the NHS remains a small fraction of the total NHS budget.
I find it particularly difficult to understand many of these angry comments as a high proportion of them come from people who have never visited a homoeopath or taken a remedy.
There was a recent item on Radio 4?s Today programme (15/07/10) questioning why there has been so much support for Raoul Moat, including several fan sites on Facebook! If I remember correctly, it was suggested that people identify in some way with a person or situation and use that person or situation to focus and express their own pent up feelings of anger.
Perhaps the anger directed at homoeopathy has deeper roots?

Hi Carole
Just went on your website to get your address. Great website, very open and informative and clear and professional.
I clicked on patients stories…
I thought when I have time I can write something for you but then I would not know where to begin as we don’t really have stories as such, just life.
Both the girls have been brought up with homeopathy as part of their life and each ‘story’ would roll into another.
This was not a concious decision but ‘happened’ as R came to you with a bad ear infection as a tiny 3 month old baby and then unintentionally, and very subtly homeopathy has simply always ‘been there’ like a soft cushion to fall into as and when required. And sometimes, looking back, it has been a real life saver!
Really R, is now 14 and P, 11 and they do not know any different. I don’t think the girls even know they have a GP somewhere.
They’re not so keen to see you now they’re older – I think before they both used to come in and liked the toys (but then R hates shopping as well so don’t take it personally!), but as they are older now, they know how homeopathy works and crucially that it does work, and the girls do know when they feel they need a remedy they have that choice which is such a great choice for them as little individuals to be able to make.
The time between visiting you now seems longer and longer with many years spanning each visit. This I attribute to you matching the right remedies for us. The body and spirit then do the rest and life flows on.
If you want to use anything from us on your website then please do, if it helps to make people aware and be able to choose to allow homeopathy into their life and lifestyle then it is worthwhile.
If you think me writing something would help then let me know but I would just end up going on and on as we have so many years of using remedies for all sorts of first aid, big emotional stuff, physical ailments, little things such as ‘hangovers’ and the whole family including the cats, dogs, and horses………………………..
